About the Program

This program aims to educate diverse, globally-engaged students while developing their inter- and intra-personal competencies to collaborate effectively in teams with members across disciplines, borders and cultures. Students who are accepted will receive the opportunity to conduct research for 5-weeks on Smart Cities at the University of Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico. All expenses will be paid for and a stipend will be available to all participants.

Requirements for Eligibility:

  • Must be registered as Graduate or Undergraduate Student
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Engineering, Social Science, & Science Major
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident


  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

IRES PROGRAM 2018-2019

The new IRES program, starting in 2018, builds on our bidirectional study abroad program on Smart Cities in 2016 and 2017 with a total participation of 64 students - 32 from UTEP and 32 from the University of Guadalajara.
